From Year 5 upwards, pupils enjoy being taught by individual subject teachers across all subjects, delivering increased variety, independence and opportunity throughout their learning.  
 

We offer specialist English and Maths teaching and tailored homework to prepare pupils for a variety of different senior school tests. We use online software to prepare pupils for their ISEB pre-tests.
 

Academic Rigour 

Staff take pride in their own subjects and carefully differentiate all lessons to support and stretch pupils according to their needs. We are accredited by NACE (National Association for Able Children in Education) for the quality of our differentiation and provision for stretching pupils. 

 

Comprehensive Learning & Support

Despite being a non-selective school, all year groups at Hazelwood are working ahead of expectations for their age in English, Maths and Science and we have impressive predictors of GCSE success based on the MidYIS assessments completed in Year 7.

Our Learning Support Department is also on hand to monitor any emerging needs or difficulties pupils might have in their learning.

Our academic rigour is the foundation and fuel for children to become creative with their learning. Beyond core lessons, their Humanities, Science, DT, Games, Creative Arts, Performing Arts and BOX lessons give pupils the opportunity to develop skills across a range of disciplines and apply their learning in different, creative ways to develop them into deep thinkers, questioners, analysers and problem solvers.
