Steps To Entry
Embark on the journey to join Hazelwood School through our simple seven-step process. From introduction to settling in, we're here to guide you every step of the way.
STEP 1: Introduction
Our website gives you an insight into the aims, values and ethos of the School. Please contact us to enquire whether there is a place available for your child.
STEP 2: Tour
We hold open mornings in the autumn term, but you may also wish to get to know us further by booking a private tour, which will allow you to see the school in action and ask any questions you may have.
STEP 3: Registration
Following your visit, if you decide that you would like your child to join Hazelwood School or Nursery, it is necessary to register your child. This is done by completing the online Registration Form and making an online payment of £120 (non-refundable Registration Fee).
Your child will then be added to our admissions list.
STEP 4: Taster Session
Nursery and Reception
The Head of Early Years will seek assurances from parents about their children.
Years 1 to 8
We recommend your child joins us for a taster session. This helps to ensure that starting at Hazelwood is a happy and familiar experience.
- Years 1 and 2: We request a copy of your child’s most recent school report prior to the taster session. Observation of your child on their visit allows staff to assess whether Hazelwood is the right school for them.
- Year 3 upwards: We require a report from your child’s current school. As we need to ensure each child can access our full curriculum, we also request pupils take an assessment during their taster session, based on tasks being done by the class they propose to join.
STEP 5: Offer
Subject to places being available and on the completion of a satisfactory taster session, we will offer your child a nursery or school place. An offer letter, acceptance form and our Terms and Conditions will be sent to you in advance of the proposed joining date.
An online transfer of a non-refundable acceptance deposit of £500 is requested, which is held on your account and refunded when your child leaves Hazelwood.
STEP 6: Class Induction
During the term before joining, your child will be invited to come into Hazelwood to meet their prospective classmates and become familiar with the School environment. For Reception admissions, your child will be invited to a ‘meet the teacher day’ and other settling-in sessions.
STEP 7: First Day of School
Every effort is made to ensure your child’s first day at Hazelwood is enjoyable and relaxed. All members of staff pay particular attention to new starters and a current pupil will be chosen to be their buddy for as long as deemed necessary.
We are so impressed by the journey the school has taken our children on. From the care and excitement that the staff inject into the Early Years, to the extraordinary enrichment provided by the unrivalled Year 7 & 8 programme; we have seen our children blossom into independent teenagers, completely ready for the challenges of secondary school.
