Dear Parents,
What a beautiful day outside - with the view from the main building, we’ve been treated to glorious dawns and sunsets every day this week! I often talk to the children during assemblies about daily steps that they can take to positively contribute to their wellbeing, for example: connecting with others, taking notice, being physically active, learning new skills and giving to others. The crisp, sunny days certainly give us all opportunity to take notice of our beautiful surroundings.
Thank you to the HPA for organising the panto, Cinderella, a wonderful event that took place last weekend in the Bawtree Hall. They give so much of their time to the school and create brilliant events for the children, which we all appreciate very much. Elsewhere in the school, Year 2 went to the Horniman Museum to enrich their learning about Ancient Egypt and Year 7 took to the streets for a Street Art Walking Tour before testing out what they’d learnt back in class. We are also looking forward to the Year 4 production at the end of this month, where they will be performing three delightful one-act comedies. Free tickets are available now.
Last night, whilst helping with tea and prep, our Year 7 and 8s shared their excitement for their theatre trip to see Treasure Island at The Miller Centre tonight. Thank you to Mrs Clark, Mrs Brighting, Mrs Keen-Ward, Mrs Philimore , Miss Banton and Mrs Wisniewski for all giving up their evening to spend with the children.
At Hazelwood, it’s important to us to go beyond just delivering excellent pastoral and academic education. We aim to open minds through building curiosity, open hearts by teaching compassion, and foster courage in how pupils use their learning. We want our pupils to thrive in an increasingly complex world and become change makers, not only at senior school, but also in their lives beyond formal education. Within Year 7 and 8, one of the many methods in delivering this is through a termly programme of workshops with external experts. Last term, the children enjoyed a session with Mentology (sport/educational psychologists) and this term they will work alongside an AI expert, Ben Whitaker, who will support them in navigating this important, ever evolving and complex area . We are looking forward to welcoming Ben to Hazelwood on Monday, for what promises to be a fantastic opportunity for pupils, staff and parents.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Best wishes,
Lindie
