Dear Parents,
With only one week to go until the end of our Spring term, school life has been busier than ever. Despite a grey, wet start to the Bowles residential trip last week, Year 5 had an amazing few days away from home. They had the opportunity to experience so many exciting activities that pushed them to take on new challenges - kayaking, skiing and archery, to name a few. I am sure they came home tired and muddy, but hopefully very happy and fulfilled children.
Year 6 were brilliant in their historical comedy play this week, performing for friends and family. After much rehearsing, the play came together beautifully, with some outstanding performances and comedy moments - well done Year 6! Heartfelt thanks, as always, go to our brilliant staff for going above and beyond and to parents for ensuring children arrived at rehearsals on time with lines learned; a true team effort by all involved.
To celebrate Science Week this week, Years 7 & 8 took part in a Forensic Science Workshop. They had great fun investigating a crime scene and giving evidence at a mock courtroom trial. The pupils collaborated incredibly well and showed a great deal of maturity when using their critical thinking skills to make some very important decisions.
During this term, Year 5 have continued to focus on their Giving Project, aiming to spread joy and kindness. Inspired by the idea of bringing cheer to those in need, the pupils focused their efforts on East Surrey Hospital. They learned cross-stitching to create beautiful cards, along with crafting and painting skills to make salt dough cookies. Armed with chocolate eggs and their handmade gifts, they visited the hospital to lift the spirits of both patients and staff this week. In response to their incredible work, Year 5 received a touching message from a student paramedic named George, who was deeply moved by their kindness during a challenging shift:
I hope this email finds you well. My name is George and I'm a student paramedic at the university of Surrey. Today I was having a very difficult shift and had to leave the hospital for some air. On returning, your pupils gave me some of their artwork and a piece of chocolate, thanking me for my work and said they hoped they brightened my day.
I just wanted to let you know that it was an incredibly kind gesture, and I would love to thank you as a school for spreading kindness. The gesture is something I will keep with me; it was just what I needed at just the right time! They really made my day better. I will keep the piece of art to remind myself that there's always kindness around, even if it may not seem that way at the time.
I look forward to seeing how the Year 5s will continue their Giving Project in the Summer term, as they firmly believe in the power of spreading kindness, which is a great example to us all. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,
Lindie.
