Dear Parents,
We’ve had such a busy and exciting week leading up to half term. The annual Hazelwood Talent Show took place on Thursday evening and was another roaring success. The acts were wonderfully varied this year and showcased the incredible range of talent we have amongst our pupils. I am always hugely impressed and this year was no exception. Well done to everyone who took part!
On Tuesday, we welcomed musician Marcel Pusey, who led music technology workshops for our Year 5 – 8 pupils. The children enjoyed trying out the technology on their iPads or Chromebooks and learning about how music technology has developed. This is a particular passion of mine and we hope to develop our music technology offering next year; I won’t give too much away now as there is still a lot of preparation involved to make this happen!
We have also enjoyed a bumper number of trips recently, with Years 3, 4 and 7 all taking part in active, fun and often muddy residential trips! Closer to home, Chestnut visited the British Wildlife Centre and Oak visited Drusillas Zoo this week too. These trips are always a great opportunity to enrich our pupils’ learning and encourage them to connect their learning with real-life experiences. We hope they made lots of happy memories to enjoy for years to come.
I am delighted to share that we raised an amazing £1,074 on our Mufti for Mindfulness Day recently. Thank you so much for your generosity - your donations will be helping the incredible Lucy Rayner Foundation support young people struggling with mental health issues. If you did not get the chance to donate, there’s still time; please see page 3 of the newsletter for the QR code.
We also hope you have had a chance to explore our new website. It is a strong reflection of our dynamic, innovative approach to teaching, as well as highlighting the happy, friendly and supportive community we strive so hard to nurture here at Hazelwood. Thank you for the positive feedback we have received from parents so far.
Next half term is ramping up to be jam-packed with so many wonderful school events for all to enjoy. Sports Day, Grandparents Day, Prize Giving, Leavers’ Ceremony, another Wellbeing Day and more. The HPA Summer Fair is also fast approaching on Saturday 8th June – always a fantastic day out for the family to enjoy, so please put the date in your diary.
Please do make the most of the opportunity to rest and recharge over half term and I look forward to an exciting end to the Summer Term.
Best wishes,
Lindie.
