Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed an incredible summer break with your families. Although it was a busy summer at Hazelwood with all the site developments, I was very grateful to be able to enjoy some time away with my family. It was a chance to take stock of all we achieved last year and begin to look forward to all that is to come in this new academic year.
To our new parents, a warm welcome from myself and staff; we are thrilled to have you as part of the Hazelwood community. I understand how challenging a change of routine and environment can be for families - we are here to support you in any way we can.
It has been wonderful to welcome our Reception classes into the Baily Building. Our Reception teachers have done an amazing job of creating warm and inviting classrooms for our new pupils to enjoy learning through play, both inside and outside, using our extensive facilities. The children have been absolutely incredible at adjusting to their new space and routines.
Our new Upper School Learning Centre, located in The Ruth Bourne Building, is proving very popular with our Upper School pupils. It’s an amazing learning environment, which we’re incredibly proud of – if anyone hasn’t had the opportunity to see it yet, please contact Natalie to arrange a tour: [email protected]
A big thank you to the HPA for arranging the annual Colour Run last Sunday. Hazelwood was drenched in colour and from the laughter that could be heard across the site, it was clear that everyone had a wonderful time.
I have spent part of this week in South Wales at an IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) conference. It is always fascinating to hear ideas and challenges from other independent schools. The private school sector has never been so challenging and yet so rewarding for those lucky enough to be part of it and I find myself even more enthused with energy, inspiration and love for my job than ever before. It really has been an inspiring few days.
Other good news, I wanted to share that Hazelwood has been nominated for another award; we are a 2024 Finalist in the Talk Education Awards for Innovation in Education. We’re delighted that our efforts to provide a bold and innovative approach to learning has been recognised. At Hazelwood, we understand the need to equip pupils with the skills needed for the changing world we live in; an education through a modern lens is at the forefront of our thinking.
Finally, our two open mornings are fast approaching. Please spread the word if you know of anyone who might be interested in learning more about our wonderful school.
Friday October 11th – Years 7 & 8.
Friday 22nd November – Whole School.
Best wishes for a restful and enjoyable weekend.
Lindie
