The Nutshell w/e 4th October 2024

Dear Parents,

The last few weeks have provided some phenomenal learning experiences for all of our children. Forest School has been a particular highlight as the season has (quite emphatically!) changed to Autumn. The children have been using their senses to explore nature and have been making wind chimes—there have been plenty of muddy boots and faces!

Our reading buddy system, which encourages collaboration between Lower and Upper School pupils, is a firm favourite at Hazelwood. It has been wonderful to see our older pupils listening to and guiding the younger ones as they develop into strong, confident readers. Year 8 recently challenged themselves with a 10-mile hike. It was not only a fantastic opportunity to bond with classmates outside the classroom but also a test of their resilience and perseverance. Well done, Year 8—I know the staff really enjoyed it.

Thank you for your generosity towards the Harvest appeal. As always, we received a wonderful number of donations, which were delivered to local food banks to support those facing hardship. We also enjoyed a fantastic Harvest Assembly from Reception, where their singing and dancing were amazing as they performed for a theatre full of proud parents. We are thrilled to share some exciting news about our Year 8 Electives—we are launching INdustry INsights. This programme is designed to give pupils exposure to the world of work across a variety of careers and professions.

I feel incredibly passionate about providing our senior pupils with these opportunities before they move on to their next school. Allowing our pupils to experience and understand different career possibilities broadens their perspectives and can ignite passions they didn’t even know they had. We will soon be asking parents to volunteer to support this initiative. More information will be sent out soon, so please keep an eye out.
